The Formula

This page exists because of a simple principle: presence on a label is not the same as absorption. Every ingredient in Greenher was chosen in a specific form, at a specific dose, for a specific reason. Not because it photographs well in a flat-lay. Because Bonnie ran the numbers on her own meals and found gaps she did not expect - and decided to fill them properly.

Every ingredient has a reason

Every ingredient in Greenher has a reason. Not just a function - a specific reason Bonnie chose that ingredient in that form over the alternative. Where the standard is folic acid, Greenher uses L-methyltetrahydrofolate. Where the standard is ferrous sulfate, Greenher uses ferrous glycinate. Where the standard is calcium carbonate, Greenher uses Aquamin F from red algae. The form of a nutrient matters as much as the nutrient itself.

Whole food sources where they offer the most complete nutritional profile. Synthesised nutrients where the bioavailable form simply does not exist in food. Fermentation and chelation where they make a nutrient safer, gentler, and more bioavailable. Every choice was deliberate.

Greenher is formulated for the female body across every life stage it moves through - menstruating years, pregnancy planning, perimenopause, menopause and beyond. Nutritional needs shift across decades. The forms used here are chosen to work with the female body at every one of them.

Nothing was included for label appeal. Nothing is hidden in a proprietary blend.

Certified organic spirulina - one of the most nutrient-dense whole foods available. A rich source of plant-based protein, iron, B vitamins and chlorophyll. Bonnie chose it because it contributes meaningfully to the blend's iron and B vitamin profile in a food-matrix form the body recognises.

Marine-sourced calcium complex from Lithothamnion red algae. Chosen over calcium carbonate - the supplement standard - because Aquamin F delivers calcium alongside magnesium and 70+ trace minerals in a whole-food matrix. Calcium does not work in isolation. Aquamin brings the co-factors with it.

A soluble prebiotic fibre providing over 90% soluble fibre. Chosen for its exceptional blendability and prebiotic gut contribution. Bonnie chose acacia over inulin specifically because it is better tolerated by women with sensitive digestion.

Certified organic green banana resistant starch - a prebiotic fibre that feeds beneficial gut bacteria as it passes through the digestive system. Chosen as a food-based alternative to synthetic prebiotic powders. The resistant starch structure means it reaches the large intestine intact, where the microbiome needs it most.

An Australian native superfruit with one of the highest natural vitamin C concentrations of any food on earth. Bonnie chose Kakadu Plum over synthetic ascorbic acid because food-matrix vitamin C comes packaged with the bioflavonoids and cofactors that support its absorption. It also gives Greenher its distinctively fresh, slightly tart flavour.

A native Australian botanical rich in citral compounds, chosen for its antioxidant properties and contribution to Greenher's distinctive fresh flavour. One of three Australian native botanicals in the formula - Greenher is the only greens powder that uses all three.

Certified organic acerola powder - one of the highest natural vitamin C concentrations of any food. Used alongside Kakadu Plum to provide natural vitamin C from two distinct whole-food sources. Bonnie chose dual natural vitamin C sources over a single synthetic dose.

A single-celled freshwater algae rich in chlorophyll, protein, B vitamins and minerals. Chosen alongside spirulina to provide complementary algae-based nutrition - the two have different micronutrient profiles and work together in the blend rather than duplicating each other.

Three mushrooms, each chosen for a distinct nutritional contribution. Maitake for its beta-glucan content and immune nutrition. Tremella for its skin hydration properties - it holds significantly more water than hyaluronic acid. Shiitake for its B vitamin contribution. All three are whole-food extracts, not isolated fractions.

Native Finger Lime Harvested from Australian native finger limes, this vibrant powder is rich in vitamin C and phytonutrients. One of three Australian native botanicals in Greenher - the only greens powder that uses all three. Minimal processing preserves its fresh citrus flavour and natural potency.

Organic Kelp Powder Sustainably harvested from pristine waters, this organic kelp powder is naturally rich in iodine and over 30 essential trace minerals. Chosen as a whole-food iodine source - because iodine is one of the most commonly overlooked gaps in women's diets, particularly for those who have switched from iodised table salt to sea salt.

Aquamin MgAg - Marine Magnesium Magnesium sourced from seawater via the Aquamin process. Most supplement magnesium is magnesium oxide, which has low absorption. Chosen alongside Aquamin F so both calcium and magnesium come from the same marine source rather than rock-derived alternatives.

Amino Acid Complex (L-Glycine, L-Proline, L-Lysine) Three amino acids chosen for their specific contribution to the formula. L-Proline as a building block for collagen nutrition. L-Glycine for its role in cellular function and as the chelating agent in ferrous glycinate iron. L-Lysine for its contribution to the blend's amino acid profile. Chosen as a complement to the whole-food protein sources already in the formula.

LactorSpore Bacillus coagulans A spore-forming probiotic strain chosen because most probiotic strains do not survive the journey through stomach acid intact. Bacillus coagulans remains dormant and protected until it reaches the intestinal environment, then activates exactly where it should. The LactorSpore form is one of the most extensively researched spore-forming strains available.

Algae-Derived Vitamin D3 Vitamin D3 sourced from algae - the only plant-based form of D3 available. Most supplement vitamin D3 is lanolin-derived (from sheep wool). Bonnie chose algae-derived D3 because it is suitable for all women regardless of dietary preference, and because algae is the original source of D3 in the food chain.

B-Vitamin Complex A full-spectrum B vitamin complex using bioavailable forms throughout. Folate as L-methyltetrahydrofolate - the active form your cells absorb directly, not folic acid which requires conversion. B12 from fermentation and naturally from shiitake mushrooms. Greenher uses the forms your body uses, not the cheapest forms available.

Nutritional Yeast-Derived Zinc Zinc bound naturally to nutritional yeast - a food-matrix source that is more bioavailable than standard zinc oxide or zinc sulfate. Chosen because zinc is consistently under-supplied in women's diets and the food-derived form integrates more gently with the body's natural systems.

Formulated around women's actual nutritional needs

Most supplements are measured against an average adult diet. This one is measured against yours.

The chart compares Greenher's nutrients per serve against the Recommended Dietary Intake (RDI) and Adequate Intake (AI) for adult women set by the NHMRC. The reference values used here apply across the menstruating years and remain the closest available benchmark through perimenopause, menopause and beyond - though as you'll read below, several nutrient needs actually rise after 50.

These figures are specific to women's nutritional needs and differ significantly from the general adult daily intake percentages shown on food labels. Those are based on an 8700kJ average adult diet, not female physiology.

A note for women over 50

Several nutritional needs increase after menopause, not decrease. Calcium requirements rise from 1000mg to 1300mg per day. B12 needs are particularly important after 50. Iron requirements drop sharply once menstruation stops, which is why Greenher's 12mg dose - calibrated for premenopausal needs - sits comfortably below the postmenopausal upper limit and remains safe across both lifestages.

The chart above uses the 19-50 reference figures because that is the published NHMRC benchmark. The formula itself was designed to remain relevant across decades.

Why Native Superfoods?

Greenher is the only greens powder that uses three Australian native botanicals: Kakadu Plum, Lemon Myrtle and Native Finger Lime. Each was chosen for its nutritional contribution and its flavour contribution - because the taste of Greenher is not incidental, it is the result of deliberate formulation.

Kakadu Plum contains one of the highest natural vitamin C concentrations of any food on earth. Lemon Myrtle is rich in citral compounds and contributes the blend's fresh, slightly herbal note. Native Finger Lime adds a bright citrus finish and a complementary phytonutrient profile. Together they give Greenher a flavour no other greens powder has - because no other greens powder uses all three.

All three are sustainably sourced from Australian growers and minimally processed to preserve their natural nutritional profile.

What is bioavailability - and why does the form of a nutrient matter?

Greenher uses whole food sources wherever they provide the most complete nutritional matrix. Where a whole food source does not exist or is not stable in powdered format, Greenher uses synthesised nutrients in the most bioavailable and best-researched forms. 'Synthetic' does not mean artificial or harmful. It often means the nutrient has been produced through fermentation or chelation so your body can absorb it more efficiently than the naturally occurring form.

For example: B12 from fermentation. Folate as L-methyltetrahydrofolate rather than folic acid - the active form your cells absorb directly, without the conversion step that a proportion of women cannot complete efficiently. Iron as ferrous glycinate rather than ferrous sulfate - chelated to the amino acid glycine for better absorption and significantly less gut irritation. These are not small differences. They are the difference between a nutrient that works and one that sits on a label.

The approach is simple: whole food where the food matrix adds value. Synthesised in its most bioavailable form where it does not. Every choice was made by Bonnie. Every ingredient is named and dosed. Nothing is hidden behind a proprietary blend.

A note on Australian food standards and what you'll see on the label

Greenher is regulated as a Formulated Supplementary Sports Food (FSSF) under FSANZ Standard 2.9.4 of the Australian Food Standards Code. This is the regulatory category that allows a food product to contain higher levels of certain vitamins and minerals than are permitted in general purpose foods - which is what makes a product like Greenher possible.

However, this standard also sets maximum input limits for specific nutrients per serve. This means that even where women's nutritional needs are higher - for example, calcium requirements increase significantly at perimenopause - the amount that can be added to a single serve of an FSSF is capped by law, regardless of what the science says would be ideal. These limits exist as a safety measure across the general population, not because the higher amounts would be harmful to healthy adult women.

This is also why the NIP on your Greenher pouch shows percentage daily intake figures based on a general adult diet of 8700kJ - not female-specific requirements. That is a labelling requirement. The figures on your pouch are calculated on a baseline that was not designed with women in mind. This page is.

A note on RDIs and what they actually mean
The RDI (Recommended Dietary Intake) is not a maximum or an optimal target - it is the minimum daily intake estimated to meet the needs of nearly all healthy individuals and prevent deficiency. Some nutrients, particularly B vitamins, are water-soluble, meaning excess amounts are excreted rather than stored. Greenher's B6 level of 3.2mg (246% of the women's RDI) is well within the safe upper limit set by FSANZ and is consistent with levels used in food products regulated under Standard 2.9.4. Seeing a figure above 100% RDI does not mean the amount is excessive - it means it comfortably covers your needs even on days when your diet falls short.

*RDI = Recommended Dietary Intake. AI = Adequate Intake (used where insufficient evidence exists to set an RDI). These figures are based on Australian NHMRC Nutrient Reference Values for women aged 19-50: carbohydrate 130g; dietary fibre 25g AI; sodium 460-920mg AI; vitamin A 700mcg; thiamine 1.1mg; riboflavin 1.1mg; niacin 14mg; pantothenic acid 4mg AI; vitamin B6 1.3mg; folate 400mcg DFE; vitamin B12 2.4mcg; biotin 25mcg AI; vitamin C 45mg; vitamin D 5mcg AI; vitamin E 7mg; calcium 1000mg; choline 425mg AI; iodine 150mcg; iron 18mg; magnesium 310mg (19-30) / 320mg (31-50); manganese 5mg AI; phosphorus 1000mg; potassium 2800mg AI; selenium 60mcg; zinc 8mg.

The RDI is not a maximum or an optimal target. It is the minimum daily intake estimated to prevent deficiency in nearly all healthy individuals. B vitamins are water-soluble - excess is excreted, not stored. Greenher's B vitamin levels are well within the safe upper limits set by FSANZ under Standard 2.9.4.

† B6 at 246% RDI is a question we get often. The RDI of 1.3mg is the floor, not the ceiling. Greenher's 3.2mg sits well below the FSANZ upper limit and is consistent with levels used in foods regulated under Standard 2.9.4. For a water-soluble vitamin, this level comfortably covers your needs on days when diet falls short.

Folate percentage is a direct comparison. Greenher contains L-methyltetrahydrofolate - the active, bioavailable form - rather than folic acid. The RDI is expressed in dietary folate equivalents (DFE) which assumes lower bioavailability of food folate. The actual bioavailable folate contribution from Greenher is higher than the 62.5% figure suggests.

*Choline figure reflects directly added amount only. See note below.

*The choline figure above reflects the directly added amount only. Choline is also naturally present in several of Greenher's whole food ingredients including sunflower lecithin (one of the richest natural food sources of choline), shiitake mushrooms and spirulina. The total choline contribution from the blend as a whole is higher than this figure suggests. Bonnie chose to source choline from whole food ingredients rather than add it as an isolated compound - consistent with the food-first approach applied throughout the formula.

A note on the grasses

Greenher contains barley grass (3.6%) and wheatgrass (3.6%). Gluten lives in the grain, not the leaf. The grasses are harvested before the grain forms, which is why they qualify as gluten free ingredients.

Both have been tested at the ingredient level with no gluten detected. In the finished product, gluten sits below 5ppm. The international standard for a gluten free claim is 20ppm, so we are well inside that threshold.

If you have severe coeliac disease, please speak to your GP or dietitian before adding any new product to your routine.

Trace ingredients worth knowing about

A few things present at trace levels that some Label Readers will want to know about. Yeast at 0.74%, from the inactive nutritional yeast powders that carry the selenium and zinc. Trace maltodextrin used as a carrier in natural beta-carotene, vitamin E, organic acerola, ferrous glycinate and the probiotic. Sourced from corn, tapioca and sweet potato. Tapioca starch, naturally occurring as an excipient in vitamin B12, biotin and vitamin D3. Trace ethanol may be present as a residue from the extraction of fruit extract powders and vitamin D. None of these are hidden. They are disclosed here so you have the full picture before you scoop.

Independently tested

Gluten is analytically tested in the finished product at a limit of quantification of 5ppm, and at the ingredient level on both barley grass and wheatgrass. Every batch of Greenher is made in Australia.
